The fine-dine restaurant floor at Niloufer is designed to capture the essence and quiet grandeur of Hyderabad in a contemporary way. Paired with Café Niloufer’s signature warmth and hospitality, the goal was to bring a sense of homeliness into the space by offering a range of seating options that cater to different needs and moments.

At the heart of the space, a central booth seating arrangement anchors the layout and helps structure the expansive dining area. The flooring features a striking mix of marble inlays in deep browns and ochres — a subtle nod to the city’s historic homes, reimagined through a clean, modern lens. Above it all, a sculptural light spirals around the central column, acting as a dramatic focal point and tying the entire space together.

I had the opportunity to be part of a panel discussion hosted by @architectandinteriorsindia — and what an experience it was. The group brought together such a diverse mix of voices, each with their own unique journey and perspective. Sitting among them, I was reminded of how much there is to learn from listening as much as from sharing. It was inspiring, thought-provoking, and energising all at once — and I’m grateful for the chance to contribute my own experiences while walking away with so many new insights.

Some people can’t imagine a bedroom without a TV

Some people can’t imagine a bedroom without a TV — and some can’t imagine one with it. Personally, I fall into the second group. I hardly watch TV, so even the one in my living room rarely gets switched on. For me, adding one to the bedroom just makes it feel cluttered.

But as a designer, it’s a different story. Almost every home I’ve worked on has at least one bedroom with a TV. In multi-generational homes, it makes sense — everyone often keep different schedules, and watching in a private space means they don’t disturb the whole family at odd hours.

That’s why we focus on making TV units as subtle and integrated as possible, so they don’t overwhelm the room. And where there’s enough space, we love creating a dedicated lounge for TV watching — letting bedrooms stay restful, calm, and tech-light.
